A small musical group is eager to usher in the new year with a celebration of holiday music from the medieval and renaissance periods.
The second incarnation of the Early Music Center is hosting a concert of pre-1760s music on Sunday, Jan. 3. It comes on the tail end of the 12 days of Christmas, a detail that, like the music to be preformed, is oft-overlooked.
Both Hanukkah and Christmas songs will be played mainly on the traditional instruments of the time period, and sung in both English and Latin.
Patrica Olds, the director of the Early Music Center, started the learning group in 1979, but closed the center down in the early 90s. Now she is trying to revive interest in the classical and baroque styles in musicians of the 21st century.
The Early Music Group will be preforming on Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Yellow Springs Senior Center’s Great Room. Admission is free, although there will be a suggested donation.
