YSSC Announces New Executive Director

The Yellow Springs Senior Center (YSSC) is pleased to announce the selection of Karen Wolford as Executive Director.  Karen brings over 30 years of management experience to her new position at YSSC. The YSSC Executive Director is a position that will promote the successful tools, models, policies and programs that support the Center’s collaborative efforts involving senior issues; and, is intended to build YSSC’s capacity as an independent non-profit organization.

We are thrilled to welcome Karen to the YSSC team.  Karen brings outstanding leadership and sensibility to the role of Executive Director for the Yellow Springs Senior Center” said Jalyn Jones Roe, 2nd Vice President of the Board of Trustees. “She has a broad base of experience working with a non-profit 501(c)(3) agency in the Tri-State area and has demonstrated success in the role of Executive Director”.

Prior to joining the staff at YSSC, Karen was the Regional Director and Fund Development Manager for the Girl Scouts of Western Ohio, Inc. in Dayton, OH. She was responsible for the development and implementing an annual fundraising plan that generated over $500,000 through individual, corporate, and special event gifts. Karen prepared and managed grant requests and reporting requirements, including federal and state grants. In addition, she supervised a full-time staff of over 30 individuals and was instrumental in developing the organization’s volunteer program.

Karen received her Certificate in Non-Profit Management from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio in 1994; and earned a Bachelor of Music Education from The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio in 1978.

Karen stated that she is “a seasoned professional that has a lot more to give [after her retirement from the Girl Scouts organization]”. And she promises the YSSC members that she will bring all of herself each day, to actively listen, and to lead with her heart and mind.
Karen also brings to the YSSC Executive Director position an extensive background in development and implementation of strategic planning, daily operations management, support and assistance to membership concerns, and experience in finance / budget control.

The Yellow Springs Senior Center is continuing to meet the needs of our members by providing ever more services, activities, and educational programs. We are pleased to welcome Karen Wolford as the new ED and we are convinced she will move the organization forward to the benefit of all stakeholders.” said Bob Huston, YSSC Board President.
