The Older Bolder Group meeting on January 14 is an Open Forum where everyone has the opportunity to share news, resolutions, books read, rejoicings, etc., that flow from Joys and Challenges of Growing Old. We will also hear a proposal from the ad hoc planning committee for 2012 programs. Older and Bolder is a part study/part discussion group sharing information, resources, experiences that improve and enrich our journey into elderhood. There are no age requirements, no dues, no attendance requirements. We do respect each person's time to speak. Please get your van raffle ticket at the Senior Center in these last days before the drawing Friday, December 30, which will be at the Emporium, downtown Yellow Springs, about 8:00 pm. Tickets can also be bought the evening of the drawing at the Emporium, one door south of the Senior Center, address below.

You do not need to be present to win. Ticket proceeds benefit the programs of the Yellow Springs Senior Center.

The van is a white 2004 Toyota Siena minivan in like-new condition with 43,000 miles. Tickets are $50.00.

First prize is the van, second prize is $500.00, and third prize is $100.00.

Only about 230 tickets have been sold, so there is a 3 in 230 chance of winning.

Please help support Senior Center programs by buying a raffle ticket.

At the Annual Membership meeting on December 4th members will have the opportunity to vote to elect new board members.

The following are short biographies of three of the four nominees on the slate of candidates for the Board of Trustees. Lee Huntington's biography was included in an earlier newsletter at the time she was appointed to fill an unexpired term.

Gregory L. Dewey, also known as Greg or Duke, was born in Yellow Springs April 2, 1948, and is the son of George and Rachel Dewey. He has worked as a professional musician, as drummer for ―Mad River‖ and many other groups. He has over thirty LP records to his credit. He has also worked as the manager of the nonprofit organization Central Office of Albuquerque, Inc.

Jalyn Jones Roe is the daughter of Jake and Maxine Jones. Her family has been part of the Yellow Springs community for seven generations. She is the founding partner of the Jael Group, a business management consulting company. Jalyn is a published writer, a professional speaker and an accomplished equestrian.

Tim Rogers is the owner and pharmacist at Town Drug. He was born in 1942, and he grew up in the small Ohio town of Stow. He started at Town Drug in the spring of 1999. He said ―I have never enjoyed working the way I have in Yellow Springs. He is completing construction of a house in Yellow Springs and is moving into it in spring, 2012.

From GCCOA: Special Reception Honoring World War II Vets

Greetings to All!

We hope you will consider joining us next Wednesday, November 9^th for a very special reception honoring our World War II veterans. This reception is being held in honor of those veterans we have lost and those we are privileged to still have with us.

The reception will be held in the Media Room at the Greene County Complex (541 Ledbetter Road) in Xenia, from 4-6pm. We will have a few displays in memory of some of these heros and a number of veterans will be with us to whom we can talk and share our appreciation and thanks. Light refreshments will be served and we will have a few remarks at 4:30pm from Xenia Mayor Marsha Bayless, County Commissioner Rick Perales, and Veterans’ Services Director Lance Woodward.

We will then introduce a wonderful comic book, The Liar’s Club, capturing stories and memories of three local WWII Veterans ~ Charlie Bath, Earl Ellis, and Jack Newhouse which was created by Michael Fleishman of Yellow Springs and features illustrations by Mark Gibbs. Mike will share a bit about his experience with these three amazing men and a poster display of some of the comic book pages will surround us. This display will then open at the Yellow Springs Arts Council Gallery (309 Xenia Avenue) on Friday, November 11^th from 6-9pm.

We are saddened by the very recent loss of Earl Ellis, one of our Liar’s Club members. Family and friends of Earl will be joining us at the reception who will make sure Earl’s heart and spirit fill the room. We thank them for sharing this day with us.

This reception is open to all and we invite you to come as well as share the information with others. We ask that you call or e-mail your RSVP to Tim Brickey (937-376-5486 or tim.brickey@gccoa.org ) by November 4^th to assist with the planning for refreshments. And if you or someone you are bringing is a veteran, we respectfully request that you share this with us so we can make sure he/she is acknowledged.

For WWII veterans, if transportation is a challenge, please let us know and we will do our best to assist with arrangements. Several of the senior centers are providing transportation to and from the reception and other resources are available.

"Older and Bolder" Discussion Group News

The discussion/exploratory group, "Older and Bolder--The Joys and Challenges of Growing Old," will continue to meet on Saturdays this summer. In fact we are increasing meeting time to make time for additional information, subjects and simplified scheduling. The Gallery Room has been scheduled for EVERY Saturday at 10 a.m. except for July 2nd.

Our focus for July 9th will be "How do I start reducing my stuff'?" Other future subjects such as the walking group, and a possible on-site tour of a co-housing development are being considered. We know we can't attend every Saturday meeting during the summer with vacations and other plans but Older and Bolder welcomes everyone who can attend.
